Altering pets to prevent unintended pregnancies is one of the best ways to address pet overpopulation. We advocate for spay/neuter of ALL pets, and hosting the Rascal Unit mobile veterinary clinic allows us to help address the resource gap for low cost spay/neuter services in our community.
For additional low cost spay & neuter resources, visit our Pet Owner Resources page, or check out Ohio Animal Advocates' comprehensive service directory.
Surgery reservation for the public (owned pets or community cats) is handled only through Rascal Charities
A $20 reservation fee is required. This fee is to cover host organization costs and is NOT deducted from your final invoice.

Visit the Rascal Charities site often, starting about 2 weeks before the clinic date.
Reserve your surgery using the Rascal site. You will receive an email from Rascal confirming your reservation.
Look for an email from Wonder Dogs 2-5 days before the surgery date.
Clinic reservations are made a single month at a time, first-come, first-served; there is no wait list.
If the month you want to reserve is not shown, reservation booking has not opened yet. Check back often.
Booking generally opens 7-10 days prior to the clinic date.
There are a limited number of surgery reservations available each month, and due to high demand for these services, reservations are filled very quickly. If the surgery you need is sold out, you can try again the following month, or follow Rascal on Facebook for additional clinics in Dublin, Ohio.
No. Wonder Dogs Rescue hosts the Rascal Unit for these clinics, meaning we send out the information and handle drop-off, payment collection, and pickup. However, the Rascal Unit is wholly separate from Wonder Dogs Rescue and we have no ability to tell them how to operate. They ultimately control how and when reservations are available, the costs for services, the required paperwork, and of course the medical care.
Watch for an email from clinic@wonderdogsrescue.org. This goes out 2-7 days before the clinic date. Make sure to check your SPAM folder.
If you have not received an email from Wonder Dogs by the Monday evening before the clinic date, send an email to clinic@wonderdogsrescue.org.
Review the information provided in the email from Wonder Dogs carefully.
This information includes drop-off, pick-up, payment, and pre-surgery instructions.
Failure to follow the pre-surgery instructions can result in your pet not being operated on.
(Optional) Fill out the Rascal Unit Surgery form using the link provided in the email.
This is optional, but recommended. Paper forms will be available at drop-off if you don't complete them online.
This form collects your contact information, the services you are requesting for your pet, and medical background information on your pet.
This form is also your surgery consent release, so you will sign it at check-in.
You do not need to download or print anything.
A reminder email will be sent to you the day before surgery. If you have questions, please respond to that email.
On clinic day, arrive during your drop-off window (provided in the email) to: Have A Gay Day, 1902 Needmore Rd, Dayton, OH
Wonder Dogs Rescue volunteers will secure your pet in the building and review your surgery form with you.
You will be provided with an information sheet for while your pet is with us, including a number you can use to reach us.
The Rascal Unit staff will call you if they need consent for additional treatment. If you do not receive a phone call, your pet's surgery was completed without issue.
Wonder Dogs Rescue will text (or call if you told us you'd rather us call) you when your pet is ready to go home.
When you arrive to pick-up your pet you will pay for the provided services, collect your invoice, after-care instructions, and any medication and be on your way!
Since the total invoice amount will depend on the services the veterinary staff performs, and those services may vary once they are able to examine your pet, we are unable to provide a total at drop-off. You can estimate your total based on the prices listed on Rascal's website and on the surgery form.
The Rascal staff will reach out to you to get consent for any additional services or medications they recommend before treating your pet, so it is very important to answer your phone or call right back if they call you.
You can find the pricing for services on Rascal's website.
This is the question we get asked most often and the answer unfortunately is no. There are several factors that impact when your pet is ready to go home.
Keep in mind:
You reserved a surgery, not an appointment time. The veterinary team determines the order of surgeries after inventorying the pets present.
If the vet staff needs to speak with you and they can't reach you, your pet's surgery may be delayed.
Different animals respond differently to anesthesia, just like people. Some pets wake up quickly and others take longer to come around after surgery. We monitor the pets after they are brought back to their crate/carrier and will contact you once the anesthesia has worn off enough for them to go home.
We don't contact you for pick-up until we have received your invoice, and the invoices are generated as time allows throughout the day.
Rest assured that your pet is safe while with us and we will let you know as soon as you can pick-up. As a general rule, dogs have surgery first and typically are ready to go home between 1pm and 6pm. Cat surgeries usually begin about mid-afternoon and cat pickup times can be anywhere between 3pm and 8pm. These windows are not guarantees of pick-up time and can be earlier or later depending upon how many pets are being seen that day.
We understand that life happens. However, because the Rascal Unit does not use a typical appointment scheduling system, reservations for surgery cannot be moved. Additionally, because the reservation fee is tied to a specific clinic date, the fee is non-refundable. If you are unable to bring your pet on the day you registered for, you are welcome to check back next month for reservations to open.
If you know you will not be able to make it, we do appreciate you letting us know so that we can use that surgery slot for a rescue animal.
